How I try to balance mama life, therapist life, and me…
For me, I have realized it is less about a perfect “balance” and more about constant readjustment, redirection, and willingness for the plan or the process to change.
Some days, I am able to be a mom all day long. Some days I see clients in the morning, sometimes the afternoon, and every day, I carve out some “me” time even if that is once my baby is asleep!
I try to honor the following…
💕 Prioritizing what feels good, helpful rhythms and routines, not perfection
💕 Small “me” moments even if that’s a long shower or scrolling on Tik Tok… best case it is a workout @heatedroom or a massage @thenowmassage but I commit to something for me every day and romanticizing the little things is key!!
💕 Asking for help, when and where I need it whether that's in therapy, with childcare, from my husband, friends, family etc.
💕 Working to honor all my parts + sides. The part of me that loves loves loves being a mom and wants to be with her all the time, the part of me that feels so much joy and purpose as a therapist and working with my clients… + lastly the part of me that needs time just for me, for me with my husband, me with my friends, etc.
It's a daily practice, one I'm grateful to get to work at! We all are striving to find a sense of balance in our daily lives although there's a common phrase that there's no such thing as balance which hey... maybe that's true?? We can still strive for it-the balance of action and rest, doing + being, socializing + solo time. It is always going to change. Mindfulness and awareness are our friends in working towards a daily system that works well for you!
If you need help with this, let's chat. I'm a private practice therapist in Los Angeles + I'm accepting new clients on zoom! I'd love to talk to you! Message me @rachel.therapy
