Relational Therapy for Women in Los Angeles
In-person and virtual Relational Therapy for women in Los Angeles & California. Learn to establish healthy, secure relationships for better mental health & well-being.
THE BASICS
What is Relational Therapy?
Relational therapy is a type of therapy that is based on the idea that human connection is the main driver (or one of the main drivers) of mental health and therefore, the relationship between the therapist and the client is seen as the primary mechanism of change.
In other words, what that means is that the focus of this type of approach isn’t on giving you a clinical diagnosis or a treatment plan - instead we focus on building a healthy relationship between the two of us so you can (maybe for the first time) experience what a healthy, secure relationship feels like. The goal is for you to get to experience a safe, supportive human connection where you can explore your needs without judgement and practice healthy communication. As a result, you’ll naturally start to improve both your relationship with yourself and with people outside of therapy.
THE BENEFITS
What can Relational Therapy help me with?
Due to its focus on relationships, relational therapy is a great approach for anyone who might have experienced any type of relational trauma and is now struggling to navigate challenges like low self worth, anxiety or repeating unhealthy relationships.
Relational Therapy can help you:
✦ Better understand your behavior patterns and relationship dynamics
✦ Notice hidden habits that may be causing conflict in relationships
✦ Create greater self-awareness of yourself, your needs and your boundaries
✦ Learn to communicate your needs and boundaries clearly
✦ Recover from past relationship wounds or trauma
✦ Learn to regulate your nervous system to stay calm during interpersonal conflict
✦ Maintain healthy, long-lasting relationships with your loved ones
WHAT TO EXPECT
What happens during Relational Therapy?
Relational therapy doesn’t follow any clear steps or phases like DBT or CBT. Instead, we’ll focus our time together on learning how to establish a safe, supportive and trusting relationship. During our conversations, we’ll explore aspects of your past and your childhood that may have shaped who you are today. We’ll look at how you are showing up in therapy to see if it sheds any light on repeating patterns you might be carrying (like fear of rejection or hiding your true self). Once we identify areas you’d like to work on, we’ll practice new skills to help you break out of those patterns so you can communicate your emotional needs with confidence or protect your boundaries without fear or guilt
BEYOND RELATIONAL THERAPY
My holistic therapy approach to support the whole you - mind, body & spirit
You may be coming to therapy with a specific approach in mind. Maybe you’ve heard that Relational Therapy can help you improve how you connect with other human beings. If you’re interested in exploring relational therapy specifically, you’re more than welcome to let me know and we can incorporate that type of work into your treatment.
More often than not, therapy isn’t quite that straight-lined though. Holistic healing requires that you look at all the areas of your life - past and present, mind, body (and sometimes spirit). To achieve that, I like to use a variety of different types of approaches. That means one session we might use psychodynamic therapy to explore past experiences. Another, we might use attachment-based therapy to better understand your relationship patterns. If you’re struggling with anxious thoughts, we might explore CBT-based tools and if you’re struggling to feel present in your body, we might try some somatic-based tools.
My goal is never to fit you into one particular therapeutic model. It's to draw from the approaches that are most helpful for you when they are needed so we can achieve holistic healing on all levels.
