Attachment-Based Therapy for Women in Los Angeles
In-person and virtual Attachment-based Therapy for women in my Los Angeles office in West Hollywood. Explore your early childhood bonds to understand how they shape your relationships today.
THE BASICS
What is Attachment-Based Therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on the idea that childhood experiences and early caregiver bonds influence how you act in relationships today. Together, we’ll identify what type of attachment style may show up in your life (secure, anxious, avoidant or disorganized), explore where these patterns may have come from and learn practical tools to help you regulate in moments of distress.
In this style of therapy, the relationship between the therapist and client is often used as a type of “template” to model to you what a secure attachment should look and feel like. By learning to build a secure, healthy bond within the bounds of therapy, you’ll then be able to heal some of your early attachment wounds and learn to mimic these healthy behaviors in your relationships outside of therapy.
THE BENEFITS
What can Attachment-Based Therapy help with?
Since the main focus of attachment-based therapy is on relationships, it’s a great approach for anyone who might have experienced any type of relational trauma and as a result, is hoping to improve their relationship - both with themselves as well as with others.
Attachment-based therapy can help you:
✦ Repair early childhood wounds left by caregivers
✦ Learn how to stay calm and regulated during relationship conflict
✦ Build self-worth & self-esteem that doesn’t rely on external validation
✦ Have the courage to be vulnerable and authentic with others
✦ Reduce constant fear of rejection and abandonment
✦ Reduce emotional isolation, withdrawal and fear of intimacy
✦ Express your needs, desires and boundaries clearly and confidently
✦ Increase feelings of closeness and connection with others
✦ Break generational cycles of insecure attachment
WHAT TO EXPECT
What happens during Attachment-Based Therapy?
-
To help you develop a better sense of self-awareness, we’ll start by exploring some of your early caregiver bonds and how they might have influenced how you show up in your relationships today. We’ll identify if you have one dominant attachment style (or different ones with different people) and what some of your core triggers are.
-
Attachment-based therapy is built around the belief that forming a healthy, secure attachment with your therapist can act as a template for what a healthy relationship should look like. Together, we’ll work with your inner child to address any unmet needs and process any unhealed trauma. I’ll also make sure to help you learn practical skills that you can use to sooth your nervous system when one of your attachment wounds becomes triggered.
-
Once you have the skills, experience and confidence to know that you can develop a secure attachment style within the therapy room, we’ll shift towards helping you translate those skills to your existing relationships outside of therapy.
BEYOND CBT
My holistic therapy approach to support the whole you - mind, body & spirit
You may be coming to therapy with a specific approach in mind. Maybe you’ve heard that you have an anxious or avoidant attachment style on Instagram and would like assistance in learning how to become more secure in your relationships. If you’re interested in exploring attachment-based therapy specifically, you’re more than welcome to let me know and we can incorporate that type of work into your treatment.
More often than not, therapy isn’t quite that straight-lined though. Holistic healing requires that you look at all the areas of your life - past and present, mind, body (and sometimes spirit). To achieve that, I like to use a variety of different types of approaches. That means one session we might use psychodynamic therapy to explore past experiences. Another, we might use attachment-based therapy to better understand your relationship patterns. If you’re struggling with anxious thoughts, we might explore CBT-based tools and if you’re struggling to feel present in your body, we might try some somatic-based tools.
My goal is never to fit you into one particular therapeutic model. It's to draw from the approaches that are most helpful for you when they are needed so we can achieve holistic healing on all levels.
